history

Aquila Housing Association was founded on August 6th 1984 by seven young Christians. These young people wanted to do something about the poverty, disadvantage and injustice they saw around them and instead of waiting until they were successful, experienced or had all the answers, they decided to find a solution...

Spurred on by the words of Isaiah 58, they engaged with the needs of their community as part of their worship to God:

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter - when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”
Isaiah chapter 58 verses 6-7

The first project opened was what is now known as the Naomi Project; 24 hour supported accommodation for homeless young women aged 18 to 30 yrs. Over the last 25 years, Aquila Way's provision has now grown to accommodating over 100 people at any one time and supporting many others.
